Alanya is building fast, and many complexes stand next to busy streets and the D400 highway. If noise is keeping you from sleeping or working, the main way it gets in is through the windows. Here is what genuinely reduces noise and where you shouldn't cut corners.
Sound travels through the glass, through the profile and, most often, through gaps: sashes that don't seal tightly, worn seals, a poorly filled installation joint. Even a good glazing unit won't help much if there is a gap between the frame and the wall. That is why soundproofing is always a package: glass, profile, hardware and installation.
It is important to understand what kind of noise bothers you. High-frequency noise — voices, motorbikes, horns — is well damped by quality glazing units and seals. Low-frequency rumble — heavy machinery, lorries, generators — travels through the building structure and is harder to deal with. So it is worth discussing your expectations of new windows with the technician in advance.
If the frames are sound, it is often enough to replace the glazing unit with an acoustic one.
When choosing an acoustic glazing unit, bear its weight in mind: thick panes and laminated glass are heavier, so old hardware may not cope with the load. In that case the technician will advise whether the hinges or the whole window need replacing.
A multi-chamber PVC profile with two sealing contours insulates against noise better than simple aluminium frames without a thermal break. For apartments by a road, REHAU or VEKA PVC windows with tilt-and-turn sashes are a good fit: they press against the frame all the way round.
Sliding systems are convenient but less airtight than hinged windows. For a bedroom facing the road, a hinged sash is the better choice.
Another important point is ventilation. If you have to open the window for fresh air, the soundproofing disappears. A convenient solution is the tilt position or micro-ventilation, where the sash opens by just a few millimetres.
The installation joint must be completely filled and sealed on both sides. Voids in the foam, gaps under the window sill and poorly sealed reveals cancel out the effect of an expensive glazing unit. That is why, when replacing windows, it is important to trust the installation to an experienced crew.
Proper installation involves several layers: expanding foam, a vapour-permeable tape on the outside and a vapour barrier on the inside. These layers protect the joint from moisture and deterioration, so the soundproofing lasts for years, not just the first season.

Simple measures often make a noticeable difference, especially if the windows were installed long ago and the hardware has never been adjusted. Sometimes, after adjustment and new seals, owners decide that replacing the windows isn't needed for now.
A glazed balcony creates an extra air gap between the street and the room. Even cold sliding or frameless glazing noticeably reduces street noise in the room, and insulated PVC glazing works even better. If the room faces the noisy side through a balcony, this may be the most effective solution.
Balcony glazing is especially useful if the bedroom opens onto a balcony with a road beyond it. In that case the noise has to get through two barriers: the balcony glazing and the room's window or door. For more on the options, see our article on frameless and sliding glazing.
The surveyor will assess the source of the noise and the condition of the windows and installation, and suggest options from adjustment to replacing the glazing units or the windows. The visit is free; indicative prices are on the prices page. Phone and WhatsApp: +90 535 556 85 25.
Sometimes the best solution is to replace the windows only in the bedroom and study, and simply adjust them in the other rooms. The technician will help you set priorities to suit your budget.
A double-chamber unit with panes of different thicknesses or with laminated glass. This kind of unit damps sound of different frequencies.
Good windows with proper installation noticeably reduce noise. It is hard to eliminate the low-frequency rumble of machinery completely, but the difference is usually noticeable.
Yes, if the frame and hardware are in good working order. It is cheaper than replacing the whole window.
