INSECT SCREENS IN ALANYA

Alanya's warm climate brings more than long summers — it also brings mosquitoes, midges and other insects flying in from outside. Insect screens let you keep the windows open and air your flat without uninvited guests.

When you really need screens

The problem is most acute in areas close to the river, gardens and greenery, on lower floors and in houses with their own plot. But even in high-rise complexes by the sea, insects are drawn to the lights in the evening. A screen is a simple way to sleep with the window open and run the air conditioning less.

Dust and pollen in spring are another issue: a fine-mesh screen traps some of them too, which allergy sufferers especially appreciate.

Types of insect screens

• Framed — the classic option for tilt-and-turn PVC windows; they come off for the winter in a couple of seconds.
• Sliding — run on their own track and suit sliding aluminium and balcony systems.
• Pleated — fold up like an accordion, handy for wide doors and terrace exits.
• Roller — roll up into a cassette above the opening and stay out of the way when not needed.

The right type depends on the windows you have: the solutions for PVC windows and for sliding glazing will differ.

Screens with a glazing order

The easiest approach is to include insect screens in your glazing or window replacement project from the start: the surveyor allows for them when calculating the profile, and the team installs everything in a single visit. But screens can also be fitted to existing windows — including ones we did not install.

If your balcony has a frameless system, standard framed screens will not fit it: the sashes fold back against the wall, so the screen needs a separate opening. In such cases a pleated or roller screen is usually fitted on the door from the room to the balcony. That way the flat stays protected and the balcony can be opened fully. During the survey we will show you where the screen is best placed so it does not get in the way of using the glazing.

Care and durability

Screen mesh traps not only insects but also the dust, pollen and sand that the wind carries in Alanya. So every few months it is worth washing the screen with a soft brush and warm water. Framed screens simply lift out; sliding and roller screens can be cleaned in place.

If you have a cat or dog, ask about extra-strong mesh during the survey: ordinary mesh quickly tears under claws. And for flats that stay closed for long periods, roller and pleated screens are more convenient — they can be retracted so the mesh does not fade in the sun.
